This is my piece titled “The Human Body”, created digitally on Procreate. It draws heavily from anatomical and medical diagrams, as my work’s inspiration came from the saying “it’s the inside that matters most”. The work’s meaning has gradually taken on different forms during the revamping process. Rather than using gore in a similar way to my first piece, I decided to create something that utilizes femininity and the grotesque to criticize how society will judge you no matter what you look like on the inside. I also wanted to make commentary about the feminine experience because I feel like those things are very similar. For a woman in particular, it’s your body and your looks that determine your self-worth. Both in a visual and sexual context.

My life as an artist has been a very rocky one. I am struggling with balancing a busy schedule on top of mental health issues. My work reflects this, since I am very inspired to represent negative emotions with grotesque and creepy imagery, especially gore. I have been inspired by anime. I only started drawing because of watching that as a very young kid, and gradually I have attempted to branch out of the anime style and focus on a more semi-realistic, yet stylized way of creating art. My goal is to make people feel things - really, anything. This piece is meant to give a sort of punch as your eye moves from top to bottom, and hopefully realizing the message I wanted to come across in this work.
